Taiwan President Lai Ching-te reaffirmed governmental support to sailors on a combat-ready warship in the Taiwan Strait, emphasizing unity during heightened tensions with China. Lai, viewed as a separatist by Beijing, addressed officers aboard the Taiwan-built warship Cheng Ho at the Magong base, ensuring support to the navy.

During his visit, a live RIM-66 Standard missile stood ready at the ship's bow as Lai expressed commitment to further improving military weaponry. Lai later reviewed an air defense drill at Penghu's air base, which frequently intercepts Chinese aircraft. Taiwan has faced persistent Chinese military pressure near the Penghu islands, described by Taipei as 'cognitive warfare'.

Despite offering dialogue with Beijing, Lai remains firm that Taiwan's future is exclusively for its people to decide. Penghu, known for its beaches and crystal-clear waters, serves as a strategic defensive point amid tensions, contrasting with Kinmen and Matsu's proximity to China's coast.
