Shubman Gill's century in the first Test against Bangladesh was highlighted by a humorous incident with wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant. During a productive 167-run partnership for the fourth wicket, Gill recollected Pant's playful attempt to touch bats, which Gill resisted to preserve his bat.

Bangladesh won the toss and opted to field, initially putting India on the back foot at 34/3. However, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rishabh Pant's 62-run partnership, followed by a robust 199-run stand between Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, lifted India to a competitive total.

Gill and Pant's centuries in the second innings propelled India to declare at 287/4, setting a daunting 515-run target for Bangladesh. Despite a solid start, Bangladesh struggled, ending day three at 158/4, trailing by a significant margin with Najmul Hossain Shanto and Shakib Al Hasan unbeaten.
