The young victim sustained multiple stab wounds from a kitchen knife in a home on Friday afternoon and later succumbed to his injuries in a hospital, according to Joliet police.
Their mother dialed 911, informing police she was inside the house but in a different room during the stabbing, as reported by WLS-TV on Saturday. 'Everyone in this incident is a victim,' Joliet police Sgt. Dwayne English conveyed to reporters, emphasizing the challenges in finding answers amidst complex circumstances surrounding the investigation.
The Department of Children and Family Services has been alerted and the family is cooperating with the ongoing investigation, police said. Joliet is located southwest of Chicago.
