In a dramatic turn of events, law enforcement officials apprehended a man suspected of animal theft, along with four of his associates, following a shootout in Kotwali Dehat, officials confirmed on Sunday.
During the encounter, Sub-Inspector Ashish Punia sustained a gunshot wound to his hand, while the suspect, identified as Tanjeem, was injured in his leg. Both were quickly transported to a hospital for medical attention, stated Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Ram Arj.
The incident unfolded early Sunday when police were conducting checks at the Maliwala tri-section. The suspects, who tried to flee after opening fire on officers, were caught after a swift retaliation by the police. Authorities recovered a country-made pistol, two motorcycles, and Rs 67,000 in cash from the accused, who are believed to be involved in theft and selling of animals, primarily buffaloes.
