A police extortion scandal has come to light along the Uttar Pradesh-Bihar border, resulting in the arrest of a head constable and 21 others. The constable, identified as Durga Rai, was implicated in an ongoing investigation.

Azamgarh Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Shubham Agarwal confirmed Rai's arrest in the Narhi extortion case. With this latest arrest, 22 people have been detained in connection with the racket, while one is still absconding. Local authorities have ordered the attachment of properties belonging to another implicated officer who is currently on the run.

Earlier, complaints were made to Additional Director General of Police (Varanasi zone) Piyush Mordia about the extortion activities. In response, senior officials conducted a raid at Bharouli Tiraha in Narhi, apprehending two police officers and sixteen middlemen involved in the scheme. Charges have been filed against all arrested and absconding individuals.
