A man has been arrested in Sikkim's Soreng district for allegedly raping his minor stepdaughter, police confirmed on Sunday.

The crime was uncovered when the nine-year-old girl visited the district hospital in Soreng town for a regular checkup on August 30, authorities stated.

Hospital staff promptly informed district police, resulting in the accused's arrest on Saturday, according to an officer.

The minor claims she was raped by her stepfather at least four times in recent months, the officer revealed.

An investigation into the disturbing allegations is currently underway, he added.
