The Supreme Court on Friday dismissed a plea by Sandip Ghosh, former principal of Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, challenging a Calcutta High Court order that rejected his petition to be added as a party to a case involving alleged financial irregularities at the institution during his tenure.

The bench, led by Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud and including Justices J B Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, ruled that Ghosh has no legal right to intervene. The High Court had transferred the investigation from a state Special Investigation Team (SIT) to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

The college is currently embroiled in political controversy and protests following the discovery of a junior doctor's body, leading to a civic volunteer's arrest. Ghosh had sought to counter adverse remarks by the High Court, but the Supreme Court maintained that an accused cannot influence the investigation process.
