The Punjab Cabinet has overturned the previous Congress government's move to slash power tariffs by Rs 3 per unit for consumers. This policy reversal aims to generate an estimated Rs 1,500-1,800 crore annually for the state.
However, Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema confirmed that the provision of 300 units of free electricity per month for the domestic category will continue under the current AAP government.
The decision, made during a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, targets promoting judicious electricity consumption among the state's residents while maintaining essential relief measures for low-usage households.
