The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a fresh FIR against former Maharashtra home minister Anil Deshmukh, alleging he attempted to frame BJP leaders in false cases, officials reported on Wednesday.
This FIR follows a two-year preliminary inquiry initiated from a pen drive given to the then Maharashtra Assembly speaker by opposition leader Devendra Fadnavis.
The probe, later transferred to the CBI from the CID, points to a conspiracy involving Deshmukh and other officials to file a zero FIR in December 2020 to wrongfully implicate BJP leaders, as per the agency's preliminary findings.
