Four individuals were taken into custody on Monday for allegedly murdering a 25-year-old man in Thane district, Maharashtra, and subsequently misleading the police, according to a senior official.

Prathamesh Chavan was reportedly assaulted in a 23rd floor room of a MMRDA rental building on September 1. One of the assailants then called the police, providing false information, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone V) Amarsingh Jadhav informed PTI.

The suspects and the victim had a longstanding enmity. Believing Chavan intended to commit theft, they attacked him. Initially registered as an accidental death, the case was escalated to murder based on the autopsy. Rajesh Ramnaresh Yadav, Pramodkumar Ramnaresh Yadav, Gangaram Yadav, and Prakash Mohite have been charged with murder, conspiracy, and providing false information under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Jadhav said.
