The Election Commission has directed the transfer of senior police officials in key districts of Jammu and Kashmir as part of the administrative shake-up ahead of the assembly polls. Senior superintendents of police (SSPs) at Baramulla, Kupwara, and the SP of Handwara are to be transferred, while a new panel of IPS officers is to be submitted by Thursday evening.

The SSP of Srinagar, Ashish Mishra, who was earlier transferred to Delhi Police but couldn't be relieved due to administrative reasons, has now been officially relieved, paving the way for his successor. Additionally, IPS officer Nalin Prabhat has been appointed as the Director General (Operations and Security) of J-K Police until September 30, marking a significant change in the leadership structure.

Further, the tenure of inter-cadre deputation for IAS officer Syeed Fakhruddin Hamid, the deputy commissioner of Anantnag, has been extended for two more years following its completion on July 8. These moves come as the region gears up for assembly polls to be conducted in three phases.
