China has criticized U.S. sanctions against its entities over the Ukraine war as 'illegal and unilateral,' ahead of White House National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan's arrival for high-level talks in Beijing. The U.S. recently imposed sanctions on over 400 entities and individuals, accusing some Chinese companies of supporting Russia's military efforts.
China has condemned U.S. sanctions targeting its entities over the Ukraine war, labeling them as 'illegal and unilateral,' ahead of key talks involving White House National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan. Last week, the U.S. imposed sanctions on over 400 entities and individuals, including Chinese companies accused of aiding Russia's military build-up despite Western sanctions.
Washington has repeatedly cautioned Beijing against bolstering Russia's defense capabilities and has already implemented numerous sanctions to limit Moscow's access to crucial technologies. China's special envoy for Eurasian affairs, Li Hui, criticized the sanctions during a recent briefing in Beijing with diplomats from Brazil, Indonesia, and South Africa.
Li insinuated that the U.S. uses the Ukraine crisis to unfairly blame China and disrupt its normal trade relations with Russia. He emphasized that such actions are self-serving and lack factual basis, urging the international community to reject them. China positions itself as a mediator in the conflict and has outlined various peace proposals, although specifics remain scant.
