On Wednesday, US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan held talks with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Beijing, focusing on bolstering communication and cooperation in key areas such as drug control, law enforcement, migration, and climate action. Sullivan's visit marks the first by a US national security advisor to China in eight years.
Chinese Ambassador to the US, Xie Feng, revealed that the discussions included plans for future interactions between the countries' leaders and maintaining high-level exchanges. Both sides agreed to follow through on the consensus reached during the San Francisco meeting between their Presidents.
Sullivan, whose trip follows an agreement between President Joe Biden and President Xi Jinping, engaged in his fifth direct meeting with Wang, highlighting the ongoing importance of their bilateral channel in managing US-China relations ahead of the US presidential elections.
