Ukraine Defends Against Renewed Russian Air Assault
Ukraine intercepted two missiles and 60 drones in an overnight attack from Russia, mainly targeting energy infrastructure. Key areas in Ukraine reported no critical damage or casualties, though some fires were ignited by debris. Ukraine continues to seek further air defense support from the West.
Ukraine announced that it successfully intercepted two missiles and 60 drones during an overnight attack spanning nine regions. This defensive action follows a week where Russia intensified its assault on Ukraine's energy infrastructure.
Since Russia's full-scale invasion began over 2-1/2 years ago, Kyiv has consistently urged Western allies for enhanced air defense support. On Thursday alone, Ukraine managed to neutralize 60 of 74 enemy drones and 2 of 5 missiles, with 14 drones' locations remaining unknown.
Serhiy Popko, head of Kyiv's military administration, reported that about 15 drones failed to hit their targets in the latest attack on the capital. Although drone debris caused minor damage and fires in certain buildings, no critical infrastructure was harmed, and no casualties were reported. Efforts to stabilize the power grid continue amid ongoing emergency cuts.
