Early Sunday, German police detained a suspect involved in the Solingen knife attack that resulted in the deaths of three individuals and injured eight more, confirmed North Rhein Westphalia state internal affairs minister, Herbert Reul.
Reul told Tagesschau, the German public television network's news program, "We have been following a hot lead all day," adding that the detained individual is currently being questioned.
The Islamic State militant group had previously claimed responsibility for the attack at the Solingen festival, celebrating the city's 650th anniversary, targeting Christians in retaliation for perceived injustices against Muslims. Although this claim remains unverified, police have been actively gathering evidence and investigating potential connections, including raiding an asylum seeker's home. Increased police presence and ongoing investigations aim to ensure public safety.
