The Calcutta High Court on Friday transferred the investigation of alleged financial irregularities at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital from a state-constituted Special Investigation Team (SIT) to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

The decision follows a petition by former deputy superintendent Akhtar Ali for a probe by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) into alleged financial misconduct during the tenure of the institute's former principal, Sandip Ghosh.

Justice Rajarshi Bharadwaj directed the CBI to submit a progress report within three weeks, with a follow-up hearing scheduled for September 17. All relevant documents are to be handed over to the CBI by 10 AM on Saturday. Ghosh's request for an urgent appeal against the order was denied by a division bench.
