In a significant development, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) detained Prasun Chattopadhyay, a data entry operator at the Calcutta National Medical College on Friday. Chattopadhyay, known to be an associate of the arrested ex-RG Kar hospital principal, Sandip Ghosh, was implicated in connection with financial irregularities at the institution, confirmed an officer.
Chattopadhyay was seen being escorted from his South 24 Parganas district residence by ED officials around 2 pm, following an extensive seven-hour search of the premises. Subsequently, he was taken to a controversial property in Madhya Narayanpur, allegedly constructed by Ghosh.
The ED's actions were part of an extensive operation targeting at least nine locations in Kolkata and its suburbs, linked to the financial irregularities at RG Kar hospital during Ghosh's tenure. While Chattopadhyay maintained his innocence, local residents vocally demanded justice as he was taken away.
