Doctors from B. R. Singh Hospital, Eastern Railway conducted medical tests on former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, Dr Sandip Ghosh, and three others who were arrested. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) detained Dr Ghosh and the others over alleged financial irregularities at the institution.

The medical tests were carried out late Monday night at the CBI's anti-corruption branch in West Bengal. Dr Ghosh was under investigation following a directive from the Calcutta High Court. Besides Dr Ghosh, two vendors, Biplav Singha and Suman Hazar, along with Ghosh's additional security Afsar Ali, were apprehended.

Union State Minister Sukanta Majumdar claimed on September 2 that he had foreseen Dr Ghosh's arrest in the corruption case. Majumdar expressed his doubts about the CBI arresting Ghosh in a separate rape and murder case due to lack of evidence. An official FIR against Ghosh was filed by the CBI on August 24 as per the Calcutta High Court's orders.

The Indian Medical Association in Kolkata has suspended Dr Ghosh's membership amid the ongoing probe. Meanwhile, junior doctors have staged protests demanding the resignation of Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal. Protestors are calling for transparency and questioning the evidence handling during the initial four days the Kolkata Police had the case.
