The alarming incident of Congress MLA Uma Thomas falling from the VIP Gallery at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Kochi has initiated an inquiry by forensic teams, police, and fire officials into potential safety breaches at the venue. Earlier, Palarivattom Police filed a case against the organizers, taking Krishnakumar, the event management firm's owner, into custody for questioning.
Meanwhile, Mridanga Vision sought anticipatory bail from the High Court over their involvement in the incident. Depthy Mary Varghese, another Congress leader and MLA, criticized the security arrangements, calling them a failure of both the police and the Greater Cochin Development Authority (GCDA). She emphasized the necessity of rigorous security checks for VIP events, highlighting the presence of a minister in the program.
The MLA's fall has sparked significant concerns regarding safety protocols at public events, particularly those involving VIPs, underscoring the urgent requirement for enhanced security measures. Following the incident, Uma Thomas was swiftly transported to Renai Medicity Hospital in Kochi, where she remains in the ICU under vigilant monitoring for a head injury sustained during the fall.
Kerala's Leader of Opposition, VD Satheesan, confirmed that MLA Uma Thomas is under observation after her fall resulted in a head injury and multiple fractures. While attending the Mridanga Naadam Bharatanatyam Programme, she fell from the stadium's VIP Gallery. Satheesan reported that comprehensive medical care is being provided, noting the initial severity of the situation.
