A school bus driver has been arrested for allegedly raping a Class 12 girl after blackmailing her with her morphed photographs, police reported on Friday.

According to authorities, the suspect, 26-year-old Mohd Razaq, stalked the minor before approaching her for friendship, which she refused. Subsequently, he morphed her photographs and blackmailed her by threatening to share the images on social media unless she complied with his demands.

Razaq allegedly raped the girl on three occasions between May and July at her home while her parents were away. The crime surfaced when the distraught girl confided in her parents, leading to the lodging of a police complaint and Razaq's arrest on Wednesday, Deputy Superintendent of Police Jaspinder Singh confirmed. Charges have been filed under multiple provisions of the law including the POCSO Act, and further investigations are underway.
