The incident occurred Thursday evening in Dhing as the girl was returning home from tuition. Locals found her unconscious by the roadside and informed the police. She is currently receiving treatment at a hospital.

Two individuals have been detained, and a search is ongoing for additional suspects, said a police officer.

By Friday morning, people from various social and political groups took to the streets demanding the arrest of the culprits. Many shopkeepers closed their businesses in solidarity, calling for stringent action and better security for women and girls.

Tension in the area heightened as Director General of Police G P Singh rushed to Dhing. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma condemned the act on social media, pledging to bring the perpetrators to justice and ensure swift action.
