The prime suspect in the sexual assault of a school girl at a fake NCC camp at Bargur in the district died by suicide on Friday, according to police reports.

Sivaraman reportedly consumed rat control paste before his imminent arrest on August 19. He was admitted to the Government Medical College hospital in Krishnagiri, where he received treatment for a fractured leg, an injury sustained while attempting to evade capture.

His condition worsened, leading to his transfer to the Government Medical College hospital in Salem, where he succumbed to his injuries. Sivaraman was among 11 people, including school officials, arrested by the Bargur All Women police. He had organized the fake NCC camp where an eighth-grade student was sexually assaulted, and other girls were allegedly abused.

Approximately 41 students, including 17 girls, participated in the fake NCC camp. The incident came to light after a victim shared her experience with her parents, prompting them to file a police complaint.
