A special court in Kolkata has granted permission for the CBI to conduct a polygraph test on former RG Kar Medical College principal Sandip Ghosh and four other doctors. This action follows the suspected rape and murder of a postgraduate medical trainee at the hospital.

Officials reported that the CBI took Ghosh and the four doctors, who were on duty during the alleged incident on August 9, to court to seek authorization for the lie detection test. The polygraph test will proceed only with court approval and the consent of the suspects.

The Supreme Court heard earlier accusations by the CBI that local police had attempted to cover up the crime. The case, which involved the discovery of the medic's body with severe injury marks in a seminar hall, has led to significant public outrage and protests. The CBI took over the investigation after a civic volunteer was arrested and the Calcutta High Court ordered the probe to be transferred from Kolkata Police.
