Thane police have formally registered a case following allegations by a 14-year-old girl that she was raped by a man she met on social media, an official confirmed on Thursday.

According to the FIR, the assault allegedly took place about three months ago when the girl met the man in the Mumbra area. The man reportedly threatened to kill her family members if she disclosed the incident.

The girl's family, who recently relocated to the Kapurbawdi area of the city, approached the police with their complaint. Subsequently, the Kapurbawdi police filed a case under sections 64 and 65 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Authorities are currently conducting a probe to apprehend the suspect, the official added.
