The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken suo motu cognizance of a media report detailing the sexual assault of 13 female students at a fake National Cadet Corps camp in Tamil Nadu's Krishnagiri district. The camp, conducted at a private school between August 5 and 9, allegedly involved 41 students, 17 of whom were girls.

It is claimed that a political leader convinced the school to host the camp under the promise of securing an NCC unit. In response to the report, the NHRC has issued notices to the Chief Secretary and Director General of Police, Tamil Nadu, demanding a detailed report within two weeks.

The report is expected to detail the status of the First Information Report, the health status of the victims, and the counselling provided to them. Additionally, the NHRC has directed state authorities to investigate whether students in four other similar camps organised by the same person faced any abuse. The incident came to light when one of the victims confided in the school principal, who allegedly attempted to cover it up until the victim's mother reported it to the police.
