External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar stated that the formation of BRICS was a response to the exclusivity of G7 nations during his address at the Geneva Centre for Security Policy in Switzerland. Jaishankar emphasized that BRICS gained momentum and value over time as more countries showed interest in joining.

Highlighting the enthusiasm for BRICS, Jaishankar mentioned that the group expanded last year in Johannesburg and that further meetings are scheduled. He noted the growing interest among countries to be associated with BRICS in various capacities, signaling the group's evolution.

Responding to the necessity of BRICS in light of the G20, Jaishankar pointed out that the G7 continues to exist despite the G20's formation, advocating for BRICS's coexistence alongside other international groups. Earlier, Jaishankar paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi in Geneva, emphasizing Gandhi's message of harmony. He is also scheduled to meet with the Swiss Foreign Minister to discuss bilateral ties.
