The Jharkhand High Court on Wednesday granted bail to IAS officer Chhavi Ranjan, arrested in connection with an alleged illegal land deal case, offering a much-needed respite to the former deputy commissioner of Ranchi.

Justice Rongon Mukhopadhyay of the Jharkhand High Court provided the bail. Ranjan had been in custody since the Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested him on May 4 of the previous year.

The ED conducted several raids in Ranchi before detaining Ranjan, focusing on numerous land deals where a nexus of land mafia, intermediaries, and bureaucrats is suspected of forging land deeds and manipulating legal documentation.
