Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump emerged unharmed from what the FBI characterized as an assassination attempt Sunday in West Palm Beach, Florida. While Trump was golfing on his course, U.S. Secret Service agents encountered and engaged a gunman armed with an AK-47-style rifle near the property line.

The assailant, identified by The New York Times and Fox News Channel as Ryan Wesley Routh, 58, from Hawaii, was spotted by agents who then cleared threats ahead of Trump's play. They exchanged fire with the suspect before he fled, dropping his rifle and other items. A witness captured vital information, leading to the suspect's arrest in Martin County.

Trump, who suffered a previous attack in July, reassured supporters of his safety via email. The incident prompted relief and condemnation from national leaders, including President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris. Trump's running mate, Senator JD Vance, confirmed Trump's good spirits post-incident. This attack follows a security lapse that resulted in the resignation of the Secret Service director.
