The Delhi High Court Bar Association (DHCBA) on Tuesday issued a strong condemnation of the 'inhuman and heinous act of rape and murder' of a trainee doctor while on duty at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata.

In an emergent meeting, the DHCBA's Executive Committee unanimously resolved to appeal to central and state governments for measures to prevent such incidents, aiming to restore public faith and improve women's security nationwide.

'We condemn the barbaric and brutal incident of rape and murder of an innocent and young postgraduate trainee doctor while on duty at the state-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital,' the DHCBA resolution, signed by its honorary secretary, read. The committee urged investigating agencies to take swift and stringent actions against the perpetrators.

The DHCBA also resolved to provide pro-bono legal assistance to the victim's family in seeking justice and ensuring the guilty are punished. As a mark of protest and respect, members will wear white ribbons on Wednesday.

The rape and murder of the junior doctor in a seminar hall at the hospital has ignited nationwide protests. The victim's body, bearing severe injury marks, was discovered on August 9. A civic volunteer was arrested by Kolkata Police the following day in connection with the case.
