Madhya Pradesh Halts Grants to Non-Compliant Madrasas; Initiates Legal Action

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced the cessation of government grants to madrasas that force students to engage in religious practices contrary to their beliefs. This move aligns with Article 28(3) of the Constitution. Additionally, the Chief Minister called for stronger anti-corruption measures and the holistic development of the Narmada river.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has declared that government grants will be stopped for madrasas forcing students from other faiths to engage in religious practices contrary to their beliefs. Legal actions may follow, including the potential cancellation of institutional recognition, according to Yadav's statement on Tuesday.

Yadav emphasized that this decision is aligned with Article 28(3) of the Constitution. Subsequently, the School Education Department issued instructions to enforce this ban and verify the credentials of students enrolled in government-funded madrasas, ensuring compliance.

In addition to these measures, the Chief Minister announced plans to bolster anti-corruption efforts by expanding the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) and the Lokayukta. Yadav also proposed the formation of a committee for the Maa Narmada Mission, aimed at the holistic development of the Narmada river, involving urban bodies and Panchayat Raj institutions.
