Pakistan's top anti-corruption body on Monday informed a court that it would not pursue the Toshakhan 2 corruption case against jailed former prime minister Imran Khan following the recent Supreme Court verdict.
Last week, the Supreme Court reinstated amendments to National Accountability Bureau (NAB) rules to only prosecute cases involving more than Rs50 billion in alleged corruption. The Toskhakhana 2 case, filed this year, involves charges against Khan, 71, and his wife, Bushra Bibi, 50.
The couple allegedly retained and sold state gifts, causing an estimated Rs13 billion loss to the exchequer. During the Adiala Jail hearing, the NAB prosecutor stated the case cannot be pursued under the top court's new ruling. Judge Muhammad Ali Warraich transferred the case to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) for further prosecution. The court also declined bail applications, referring them to the new jurisdiction.
