David Beckham, England's famed former soccer captain, arrived in Sweden on Thursday to attend the funeral of Sven-Goran Eriksson, his former national-team coach.

Eriksson passed away on August 26 at the age of 76, following an eight-month battle with pancreatic cancer. Beckham, who captained England under Eriksson's leadership from 2001 to 2006, had visited his former coach in June.

Swedish news agency TT reported Beckham's landing at Karlstad airport on Thursday evening. The airport is a short drive from Torsby, a town located about 310 kilometers west of Stockholm, where the funeral will take place in the 600-seat Fryksande church on Friday. Beckham was spotted checking into a hotel in Karlstad, as reported by Swedish media.

Torsby is situated in Varmland, where Eriksson was born and passed away. Following the church ceremony, a musical procession will accompany Eriksson's coffin to a museum in Torsby, featuring speeches and eulogies. Roy Hodgson, another former England coach, expressed his privilege to attend Eriksson's funeral despite the somber occasion.
