Over a decade after the Lokpal and Lokayuktas Act 2013 was enacted, the anti-corruption body has finally constituted its inquiry wing. This wing will be responsible for conducting preliminary investigations into graft-related offenses committed by public servants.

The decision was made during a full bench meeting of Lokpal on August 30, 2024. The Lokpal's Chairperson, Justice A M Khanwilkar, issued an official order on September 5, 2024, to commence the selection process for officers and staff needed for the inquiry wing.

According to the Lokpal's organogram, the inquiry wing will include a Director of Inquiry, supported by Superintendents of Police specializing in general, economic, banking, and cyber-related offenses. This move aims to strengthen the Lokpal's ability to combat corruption effectively.
