Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has issued directives to police to book the accused in a sexual abuse case involving two girl students from a school in Thane district under charges of attempt to rape. Shinde assured that the case will be expedited and a special public prosecutor will be appointed.
The incident has sparked significant public outrage, with hundreds of parents staging a 'rail roko' protest at Badlapur railway station, disrupting local train services. The protesters demanded strict action against the accused and condemned the delay in registering the offense. The local guardian minister, Shamburaj Desai, called the incident unfortunate and mandated two separate probes to investigate the delay.
School Education Minister Deepak Kesarkar disclosed that a police official was transferred for negligence, and a notice was served to the school, suspending both its principal and a class teacher. Vishaka committees are to be established in schools to prevent future incidents. The accused was arrested after the girls told their parents about the abuse.
