Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced in the Assembly that the Atal Adarsh schools will continue to operate as usual.
Responding to BJP members Vipin Singh Parmar and Vinod Kumar, Sukhu confirmed that the schools will neither be sold nor leased out. These schools, initiated by the previous BJP government under Jai Ram Thakur, are in various stages of construction, pending budget availability.
The Atal Adarsh schools, named in honor of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, were mentioned by Sukhu alongside criticism of the BJP's educational policies, alleging that the state educational quality deteriorated under their governance.
Opposition leader Jai Ram Thakur countered that advertisements had been issued to lease out the schools, a claim Sukhu refuted. Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi specified that three Atal Adarsh schools are under construction with an allocated budget of Rs 70 crore, but no new land has been identified in the past three years.
