In a significant development, a complaint was lodged on Monday with Bangladesh's International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and 26 others, including ex-ministers, for purported genocide and crimes against humanity.
Md Abul Hasan, whose son Shahriar Hasan Alvi was killed during recent anti-discrimination student protests, filed the complaint. It includes former ministers Obaidul Quader, Rashed Khan Menon, Hasanul Huq Inu, and ex-inspector general of police Abdullah Al Mamun as prominent accused.
The submission included newspaper cuttings and other documents as evidence. Following her resignation and departure to India, Hasina faces a tribunal-led investigation amidst an interim government's vow to prosecute all involved in the ongoing violence, which has claimed over 230 lives recently.
