Authorities at the Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati, have barred journalists from visiting the campus following the death of a third-year student, allegedly by suicide.

The student, from Uttar Pradesh, was found dead in his hostel room, prompting protests from students demanding justice and better mental health support.

In response to the protests, the Institute requested media not to visit the campus, assuring that the issue is being treated with urgency and that a meeting with the media will be arranged soon.

Journalists attempting to enter the campus since Tuesday evening were turned away, and the Institute issued a statement that the resignation of the Dean of Academic Affairs is under discussion.

Students have been protesting outside the administration building since Monday evening. They are upset over recurring student deaths and allege that the deceased student had been struggling with health issues and mental distress due to academic pressures.

The Institute's Director met with students to discuss their concerns and assured that steps would be taken to foster a safe and supportive environment.
