On Monday, authorities at Guwahati's posh City Centre Mall received a bomb threat from an unknown organisation, leading to the immediate evacuation of the shopping arena, police confirmed.
The mall, situated close to the state secretariat, was evacuated around 4 pm. Initially, authorities cited 'technical issues' as the reason for the sudden shutdown.
Assam Police disclosed that the threat was communicated via email to 75 locations across India. The email threatened to bomb the mall, prompting the evacuation and a thorough search operation by bomb disposal squads and sniffer dogs. Nothing suspicious has been found so far.
This incident follows the recent threat by the banned ULFA(I) group, which claimed to have planted 24 bombs across the state. In the last two days, ten 'bomb-like substances' have been recovered, including four in Guwahati. Monday's threat was linked to an unknown organisation named 'KNR.'
Mall authorities initially put up a notice citing technical issues, but later the real reason was revealed. City Centre Mall features numerous shops, eateries, gaming zones, and a multiplex, making it a bustling spot in the city.
