The nascent militant group, Karbi Peoples' Liberation Army (KPLA), has been disbanded following the voluntary surrender of three key members before police in Assam's Karbi Anglong district on Monday, according to an officer.
Formed in July, the KPLA was involved in extortion activities in several areas of the district. 'Due to sustained police efforts, three cadres of the organization surrendered to the Karbi Anglong police team with three 0.32 pistols and two rounds of live ammunition,' stated Director General of Police G P Singh, in a post on X.
This development is seen by district officials as a crucial move towards restoring law and order, neutralizing the threat before the organization could establish its roots.
