Xi Jinping and To Lam Strengthen Sino-Vietnamese Relations During Beijing Meeting

Chinese President Xi Jinping engaged in discussions with Vietnam's new leader To Lam in Beijing on Monday, marking Lam's first state visit since taking office, as reported by Chinese official media Xinhua.

The meeting underscores the robust economic and trade relations between the two communist-run neighbors, despite occasional boundary clashes in the South China Sea. China emphasized the significance of Lam's decision to prioritize China for his inaugural trip, reflecting the importance of bilateral ties.

Arriving in Guangzhou on Sunday, Lam's three-day visit includes meetings with Chinese Premier Li Qiang and other top officials. During his stay, he visited historical sites linked to former President Ho Chi Minh's revolutionary activities.

Last December, both nations signed over a dozen agreements during Xi's visit to Vietnam. These agreements, though not detailed, aimed at enhancing railway cooperation, investments, and emergency communication channels in the South China Sea. A joint declaration highlighted plans for cross-border railway projects, investments under the Belt and Road Initiative, and cooperation in various sectors, including agriculture and green development.
