Rajnath Singh Inaugurates Advanced Maritime Rescue and Pollution Response Centres
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated a new Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) and a Regional Marine Pollution Response Centre (RMPRC) in Chennai, along with a Coast Guard Air Enclave in Puducherry. The MRCC will coordinate maritime rescues, while RMPRC will combat marine pollution. Both centres will enhance India's coastal safety and security.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated the Indian Coast Guard's new Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) and Regional Marine Pollution Response Centre (RMPRC) in Chennai, alongside a Coast Guard Air Enclave in Puducherry.
The new MRCC, strategically located near Napier Bridge in Chennai, will serve as a central hub for coordinating all maritime rescue operations along India's east coast. This state-of-the-art facility, constructed at a cost of Rs 26.10 crore, is equipped with advanced terrestrial and satellite distress monitoring systems and real-time communication tools.
The RMPRC, situated within Chennai Port premises, represents a pioneering effort in combating marine pollution in the Indian Ocean Region. Announced by Singh during the Indo-ASEAN meeting in Cambodia, the RMPRC will feature a round-the-clock Emergency Response Centre and offer training in oil pollution response techniques to various stakeholders.
