Defence Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated the Indian Coast Guard's new Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) and Regional Marine Pollution Response Centre (RMPRC) in Chennai, alongside a Coast Guard Air Enclave in Puducherry.

The new MRCC, strategically located near Napier Bridge in Chennai, will serve as a central hub for coordinating all maritime rescue operations along India's east coast. This state-of-the-art facility, constructed at a cost of Rs 26.10 crore, is equipped with advanced terrestrial and satellite distress monitoring systems and real-time communication tools.

The RMPRC, situated within Chennai Port premises, represents a pioneering effort in combating marine pollution in the Indian Ocean Region. Announced by Singh during the Indo-ASEAN meeting in Cambodia, the RMPRC will feature a round-the-clock Emergency Response Centre and offer training in oil pollution response techniques to various stakeholders.
