The Department of Home Affairs has welcomed a court decision allowing the deportation of 95 Libyan nationals who were arrested in White River, Mpumalanga. Following the court's ruling, Home Affairs Minister Dr. Leon Schreiber has instructed the department to expedite the deportation process while adhering to all legal protocols.

The 95 individuals were apprehended last month at a suspected military camp in Mpumalanga. However, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has since withdrawn the charges against them, paving the way for their deportation.

On Thursday, the Department of Home Affairs confirmed that officials were present in court to obtain the necessary confirmations for deportation from the Magistrate, which will facilitate the process. The department is now finalizing the logistics required to carry out the deportations.

"As indicated earlier, deportation was among the options Home Affairs considered, in collaboration with other law enforcement authorities," the department stated, emphasizing their readiness to return the group to Libya.

Minister Schreiber reiterated the department's commitment to enforcing immigration laws and ensuring that anyone who breaches them is held accountable through the legal system. "Respect for the rule of law is sacrosanct," Schreiber declared, affirming that the department will not hesitate to take decisive action in such cases.
