Colombia's Commitment to Peace: Government Maintains Talks with ELN
The Colombian government, represented by Vera Grave and Senator Ivan Cepeda, emphasized its commitment to continuing peace talks with the National Liberation Army (ELN). Despite the expiration of a ceasefire, the government has not broken negotiations, urging the ELN to make the next move.
The Colombian government has stated it will not unilaterally end peace talks with the National Liberation Army (ELN), despite the expiration of a ceasefire earlier this month.
At a press conference in Bogota, peace delegation head Vera Grave and Senator Ivan Cepeda reinforced the government's dedication to completing the peace process. ''The purpose of this government is to finalize the peace process with the National Liberation Army. We're not going to be the ones to break off negotiations,'' Cepeda declared.
Although military and police operations against the ELN have resumed, the rebel group has indicated it won't launch attacks but will defend itself if necessary.
