Former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, in a recent interaction with PTI editors, advocated for the removal of the governor's post, branding it a 'burden on democracy.' He argued that the institution mainly serves to obstruct the effectiveness of non-NDA governments.
During the interaction, Sisodia expressed pity for bureaucrats in Delhi, who he believes are caught in the crossfire between the Lt Governor and the elected government, adversely affecting public services and governance. He stated that this situation has led to undue suffering for both officers and citizens.
Sisodia criticized the central government's handling of democratic rights, citing the Supreme Court's decision that gave power to elected governments which was later undermined by parliamentary legislation. He also pointed out similar governance issues in other states, stressing that governors are appointed mainly to hinder elected governments.
