An Army captain was killed, and four terrorists are believed to have been gunned down in an ongoing operation in Doda district of Jammu region on Wednesday, according to officials.
A civilian suffered injuries in the encounter, which broke out just a day ahead of Independence Day. This incident adds to the recent spike in violence witnessed in the Jammu region. The shootout occurred in a thickly forested area during a cordon and search operation (CASO) launched to track foreign terrorists hiding in the Shivgarh-Assar belt, as per officials. The young captain, who was critically injured, was shifted to a military hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
Officials recovered four blood-soaked rucksacks, leading them to believe that four terrorists were killed, and M-4 carbines were also found at the site. The Army, on its official X handle, confirmed that an injured officer was leading the search party amidst heavy firefighting, with war-like stores being recovered.
