In a startling incident, 3,800 bamboo lights and 36 projector lights worth over Rs 50 lakh have allegedly been stolen from Bhakti Path and Ram Path in Ayodhya, a high-security area, according to local police.

An FIR was registered on August 9 following a complaint from Yash Enterprises and Krishna Automobiles, the firms contracted by the Ayodhya Development Authority to install the lights. Despite the theft being identified in May, the complaint was lodged several months later.

Police have initiated a probe into the matter. The theft was uncovered as part of the larger project to refurbish Ayodhya ahead of the Ram temple consecration ceremony scheduled for January 2022.
