The Odisha vigilance department on Tuesday apprehended a retired engineer, Mishra, after unearthing disproportionate assets valued at crores of rupees from his possession.

Mishra, a former chief engineer of the public works department, was found with assets including 10 high-value flats in Bhubaneswar and Jharsuguda, seven costly plots, 2.55 kg of gold, and 370 grams of diamond. Additionally, various raids in Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, and Jharsuguda revealed deposits of over Rs 2.70 crore, Rs 6 lakh in cash, and two luxury cars.

Investigations also uncovered Mishra's international travels to countries such as the USA, Thailand, Vietnam, UAE, Canada, Malaysia, and Singapore, for which he couldn't satisfactorily explain the source of income, leading to a corruption case and his subsequent arrest.
