The Border Security Force (BSF) has successfully intercepted an attempt by a group of Bangladesh nationals to illegally enter the East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya, officials reported on Thursday.
According to BSF officials, the group crossed the international border in approximately 5-6 boats in the riverine stretch of the Ranikor area on Wednesday afternoon, aiming to collect boulders. When initial verbal warnings were ignored, BSF troops were compelled to open fire, prompting the intruders to flee.
The BSF has heightened its vigilance in Meghalaya and other northeastern states due to the unstable political environment in neighboring Bangladesh. In response, the state government has imposed a night curfew and temporarily suspended business activities at border haats to curb any illegal activities.
