In a landmark achievement for the region, the North Eastern Handicrafts and Handlooms Development Corporation (NEHHDC), under the Ministry of DoNER, has inaugurated the first NABL-accredited textile testing laboratory in Northeast India. Located in Garchuk, Guwahati, the state-of-the-art facility is expected to set new standards for quality assurance in the local textile industry.

This accreditation signifies a major step forward in promoting rigorous testing standards and ensuring high-quality textile products from the Northeast. A statement from the North East Council on social media highlighted, 'We're proud to announce that the Textile Testing Laboratory at NEHHDC Head Office has become the first NABL-accredited facility in North East. This accreditation will raise the bar for textiles in Indian and global markets, unlocking endless possibilities for the region.' Previously, local weavers and producers had to send their textiles to Kolkata for testing due to the absence of such facilities in the region.

With the establishment of the NABL-accredited lab, local weavers and manufacturers will now have immediate access to high-quality testing services right in Guwahati, Assam. This move will not only save time and resources but also empower the Northeast Region (NER) to enhance its market position. Accreditation offers formal recognition of competent Conformity Assessment Bodies (CABs), ensuring reliability and building customer confidence in the testing and calibration reports issued by accredited laboratories.
