A committee appointed by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) convened a meeting to assess the current situation along the Indo-Bangladesh border, as confirmed by officials on Friday. The assembly was chaired by Ravi Gandhi, ADG, BSF (Eastern Command), and attended by members, including representatives from the Land Port Authority of India (LPAI).
During the conference, discussions took place regarding various communications with the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and the safety status of minority communities in Bangladesh, especially in bordering districts. Since August 12, 2024, the two Border Guarding Forces have conducted approximately 722 border meetings at different levels. Additionally, they executed 1367 simultaneous coordinating patrols (SCP) in vulnerable areas within the Eastern Command's jurisdiction.
In these border meetings, BGB officials were urged to prevent infiltration into India. Concurrently, BGB officials assured their commitment to safeguarding Indian citizens and minority communities in Bangladesh. Both forces remain in constant contact, sharing real-time information on various operational matters.
BSF has also organized village coordination meetings with Indian villagers residing along the international border. These meetings aim to inform them about the situation in Bangladesh and seek their cooperation in border management. Over the past 15 days, 614 such meetings have been conducted within the Eastern Command's area of responsibility, receiving positive responses from villagers. Additionally, several meetings with sister agencies were held to bolster border security efforts.
The Indo-Bangladesh border situation has largely remained peaceful, with BSF committed to maintaining the integrity of the international boundary and ensuring the safety and security of border residents. BSF personnel continue to perform round-the-clock duties in cooperation with BGB under the Coordinated Border Management Plan (CBMP).
